Medium-size parrots with short tail and wings.

[edit] Taxonomy

Pionopsitta is a genus in the Family Psittacidae. Recent DNA results show that Pileated Parrot is genetically far from the rest of the species currently included in Pionopsitta. The SACC has followed suit so that Pileated Parrot is the only remaining member of this genus while the rest are placed in genus Pyrilia which has priority over Gypopsitta.
