Identification

27cm.
Male

Glossy black plumage
Thick black bill
Grey legs
Dark brown iris

Female: smaller than the male

Chestnut-brown
Whitish throat and belly
Dark horn-coloured bill

Distribution

Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra.

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies:

M. n. niger:

Lowland forests of Malay Peninsula and Sumatra

M. n. borneensis:

Lowland forests of Borneo

Habitat

Lowland rainforests.

Behaviour

The clutch consists of 5-6 white eggs.
