Identification

27cm.
Male

  • Glossy black plumage
  • Thick black bill
  • Grey legs
  • Dark brown iris

Female: smaller than the male

  • Chestnut-brown
  • Whitish throat and belly
  • Dark horn-coloured bill

Distribution

Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra.

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies:

  • M. n. niger:
  • M. n. borneensis:

Habitat

Lowland rainforests.

Behaviour

The clutch consists of 5-6 white eggs.
