    8x42 DBA VHD+ Monocular

Well, it’s been just over three months since I parted with my £289 in return for this remarkable little gadget. I wanted something small and light that I could take anywhere. When I first started using it, it felt very strange compared to my binoculars. But I soon got used to the view and...

    This mornings feathered friends

So far this morning I have seen one soggy magpie and one soggy crow. The crow seems to have gone home back to the dry, but Mr Magpie is still perched on the satellite dish oblivious to the wet stuff.

    Waterproof hats

I’ve got one of those suede/leather Aussie type hats. Experimented with Barbour thorn proof wax dressing - rubbed it in all over the hat, so the hat looked shiny. Blasted it with a hair drier so the wax absorbed. No longer shiny and repels water like anything.

    Upgrade to mid-range price binoculars

I second the Opticron. I have the 8x42 VHD+ monocular, and that now goes everywhere with me. Amazing view. If I win the lottery or have a good bit of luck on the horses I’ll get a set of Aurora bins myself.

Highest quality 10x50 central focus porro?

I have a CZJ Dekarem 10x50 in virtually new condition. Love em to bits. Reserved for dry nice weather use. Use the 8x42 Opticron VGH+ monocular when the weather is crappy.

    Foxes

Zeiss SF is almost 10 years old........

I would like to see Zeiss do a good, old fashioned porro, made with all the new fandangled optics. 8 by 56 or 9 by 63. Something like that.

    Sensible Birds

    More sensible than me 😂

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

I’d love a pair of Aurora’s in 8x56. Come on Opticron.

    Sensible Birds

I haven’t seen a single bird all day. Given the weather, they are quite sensible.

A High End Alpha Grade 42mm Monocular

Haven’t managed it with mine yet, but apparently it eases up with use. One thing I can say is that the image is superb !

    DBA VHD+ 8x42 Monocular

Well after spending some time deliberating on a birthday Leica Monovid or an Opticron DBA VHD+ 8x42, I settled for the Opticron. Had my first chance to use it tonight when the cloud disappeared. All I can say is WOW !! The crescent moon was crisp and bright with zero colour fringing. The...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I quite enjoy spending a summers afternoon plane spotting. Sad or what !
