Adam, went round Tittesworth this afternoon, there were 14 Goosander about 3-400 metre short of the dam on the west side. We saw by struggling through the brambles on the east side to the edge. Also pochard and goldeneye further north. When we left the West Hide we bumped into someone who's...

Oh all right , not found/seen that differentiation. While the angle looks a marginally greater than the carbo diagram, its certainly not obtuse. Maybe I'm not that good on the computer either! ;- Mike

That's interesting , good picture. From a combination of Collins and the BWPi it looks like an early breeding, season race: silensis (apparently from a google, possible originally from RSPB, an east european migrant). Going on the amount of white on head indicating older male, silensis, while...

    Nikon P5100

Richard, as earlier post,I use exactly that - P5100, UR-E20, Kowa 773 (with zoom eyepiece), Kowa DA10 which screws on the eyepiece instead of the eyecup - and the Kowa 28mm adapter. The adapter is basically what they call a step-up (or -down, depending which way you look!) between the DA10 and...

    Nikon P5100

Im getting some better (slightly) success now with focussing my Kowa then using the DA adapter to bayonet on the P5100, but using centre spot focus - on the legs as Neil suggested earlier. 400 ASA, centre exposure, aperture priority. Just need to get closer and persuade the bird not to move! Mike

Well, had a Buzzard just west of A54 at Axe Edge near where I live yesterday while on way to Lathkill Dale - and then 2 more at Lathkill. Also quite a few Lapwing and Curlew around and just over the border into the Staffs Moorlands. We get Buzzard over several times a year now - and that's just...

And if you go out via the one-way to Derbyshire Bridge - evenings, there are short-eared owls at least as well as the grouse and kestrel - and possible other raptors. Thats 1st left after the DB car park and around/on the bend/over the tops. Possibly from a morning walk as well. Odd Curlew...
