    Durham Birding

Can someone please tell me how to access Brasside Ponds, just North of Durhamcity. I walked 5km to them yesterday only to get past the dog kennels and find what looked like an old style but which had been clearly blocked off. Apparently there was a gate somewhere which I missed; is this just...

Beaded Chestnut or Brown-Spot Pinion, Norfolk?

Thanks. We caught 6 other Beaded Chestnuts in the same trap, so I was expecting it to be one to be honest.

    Square-Spotted Clay in Norfolk?

We trapped this moth this morning. We know Square-Spotted Clay is a breckland species and we have trapped breckland species at this site before, but we are also aware that we are outside the flight season for this species. Could this be an immigrant or have we got the ID wrong? Thanks Sim

    Norfolk birding

5 Common Cranes at Welney WWT today. One pair had a young bird with them and were frequently chasing off the other pair. Great to see there's been breeding success in this area of the county. Record shot on my website before long...

    Barn owls in Norfolk

There's normally one or two over the marshes at Holkham in the evening. This area has a vast amount of ideal habitat, so is probably worth a look in my opinion.

    Norfolk birding

Looking back at my notebook the start of September 2009 was strong westerlies. Then we must have had some decent winds, as combined totals from a couple of seawatches produced 20+ Black Terns, 49 Great Skuas, c.30 Arctic Skuas, Balearic Shearwater etc. within the first two weeks. Winds obviously...

    Suffolk Birding

Were many of today's seabirds heading North then? Interesting why they do that when it would be quicker to get into the atlantic again by continuing down the channel, also less chance of being pushed back over the top of Scotland by another low pressure system/hurricane. Maybe they just have a...
