    These plants are flowering among the bluebells and stitchwort in the local woods - dangling green and white flowers from an arc-shaped stem with leaves in pairs on the upper side of the stem. I used to know what they're called, but now I find the name has gone from my memory, and I can't find...

    No house martins this year?

    Spoke too soon! At 5pm today I saw about 15-20 house martins wheeling above the house. They haven't shown any interest in the nests yet, but at least they're here! Three weeks later than normal - I guess there was some adverse weather on the way north.

    I normally get house martins nesting under the eaves of my house every year - usually at least 6 occupied nests - and they're always here before the end of April. This year, I haven't seen a single one, though there are several pairs of swallows in the barn. Has anyone else got nesting house...

    I thought this was a robin at the bird feeder this morning, then realised it wasn't. Grabbed hasty pics from a distance. Is this a brambling? I've never seen one before. (Berkshire/Hampshire border)

    I haven't seen this bird in my garden before. Is it a chiff chaff or a willow/garden warbler? Petite, slim bird darting about on a bush and low wall, very quick, nervous movements, briefly chased a small butterfly, Sorry about the rubbish quality of the photos - v.poor light and bird moving...
