Very light* setup (binoculars + scope)

8x30SFL and Kowa 553 is as light as I'll go, for now at least :-P With very few exceptions, I never wish for more.

To say that this statement is a WOW moment, would be an understatement imho.

Female chest friendly binocular harness recommendations?

Sorry... since I'm a guy, I can't speak to anatomical issues but regardless, a pouch is just a way of taking the weight off neck and avoiding thin cordage across chest. At least that's how/why it works for me. The downside is that it can delay your ability to get 'on' a bird really quickly...

Female chest friendly binocular harness recommendations?

I like these as they are minimalist. The harness has no sweaty back pad and the pouch, when worn with lid folded down permits quick stowing and retrieval. If WX gets sketchy, the lid provides substantial protection. I wish his website showed pouch in use a little better. Maybe he has YouTube...

Which binocular(s) did you use today?

I've been using 8x30SFL's almost exclusively. The weight is such that I can wear them with a 'NATO' strap which is not padded. It makes for a lot less 'stuff' around my neck since I'm also wearing a full-frame camera and lens, rucksack, etc. Found this guy in marsh nature preserve on a river...

Shots of birds, taken with your pocket camera

Even with a full-frame and 'big lens', one quickly learns that conditions have to be optimal. Sufficient light, and lack of heat haze are needed or else no amount of 'firepower' will get the poster-quality shot. So yes, even with a relatively 'big-rig' I find my most gratifying photos are...

Any "compact scopes" that you like?

To be clear: I really like the 553. Just saying... it's one of those compromises. The ATC has more ER, but I really didn't want the extra oz's. The IQ is so good, that perhaps you should try one (B&H test drive?)?

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

We've owned the 8x30MHG and yes, they are lovely. But if looking at 30's, I recommend including the SFL's in sampling. They are both excellent but different in subtle ways - diff folks and all that!

Any "compact scopes" that you like?

I own the 553 (angled). Form factor is superb. It fits in an outer pocket of my camera bag and it's relatively light. Image is crisp, sharp, and lacking all CA. My only complaint might be that I wear specs, and the view is not as expansive as I would like (FOV and ER ok but not 'wow'). But...
