What animal has stolen my suet cage???

Until I seen this pop back up today I'd forgotten about posting. FOLLOW-UP: I placed a trail cam outside in 2018 and found it was a racoon, or raccoons. I would have not believed it without photo evidence, since we do have bears nearby.

    When DONT I use a 12x50?

The 12x50 SV is a special animal IMHO. I have related this here on this forum before but I was at the 2014 Birding Expo in Ohio and was shopping for a main binocular for birding. I was mainly looking for a 7x or 8x but Clay Taylor with Swarovski was there and making a special effort to show...

    Rangefinding binoculars anyone using them?

That was a good guess-timate! I'm usually terrible. I was in the National Guard here (still US Army basic training) and did 30+ years in law enforcement. We (Americans) are usually taught to estimate by football fields (100 yards.) That's a good technique but can still be hard for some...

    Rangefinding binoculars anyone using them?

Almost no one. While I'm in the early stages of shopping some for another hobby, most birders seem to concur that they serve no purpose in birding (although I totally understand sheer curiosity of ranging items). I also use binocs for several hobbies and general viewing. Older ones were not...

Compare Nikon HG 42 vs Zeiss SF

I've wanted an SF since they came out based on what I read but I just got to LOOK THROUGH one last week. Dang. Now I REALLY want one. Love my Leica U-vid HD but the SF was noticeably more bright. The overall handling however was the bomb...not just "brightness".

If you own one pair of glasses ...

One of my favorite firearms articles in the HISTORY of firearms writing was an article in the late 1970s or early 1980s by Charles "Skeeter" Skelton. Skelton was a famous gunwriter (as well as Marine/Texas Sheriff/lawman/ranch owner/gun aficionado) and wrote a fictional article about a visit to...

    Can you help me out?

SLC all day long! IF bins are so specific, only a small segment of users can get benefit from that focusing style.

    Need Help Choosing 8x42

I too prefer an 8x42. I have a couple of cheaper 8x32s (Opticron, Vortex) and have purchased AND RETURNED the much-lauded 8x32 Zeiss FL. I have handled an 8x32 Swarovski EL. NONE gave me the ease of view of a decent 8x42, for my eyes. My main bin is a Leica Ultravid HD 8x42 (which is...

    New Vortex "UHD" Line

Very Kamakura (Maven-ish) looking at specs and design...also Maven just came out with with the B5 which includes an 18x56... Maybe they're going "back" to Japan for the flagship line?

    Disney Florida/St Augustine May/June 2019

I'll be in St Augustine Sat/Sun/Mon... Anxiously looking forward to seeing my first painted bunting. All other birds in the region then come secondary for me...been trying to spot one since declaring myself a birder several years ago. I'll be sure to visit Anastasia Island. Any public (or...

Swarovski Optik on Tour - Mobile Experience

This is a great idea-perhaps one of the best I've seen in a while! Having not clicked the link yet-I hope they are not just hitting huge cities only where there might already be some vendors of alpha bins (?)

    x32 SF: the waiting begins

Wasn't it the HT release that gave us the COUNT DOWN (and the COUNT UP ) "clock"?
