Spotted crake Porzana porzana Kalloni Salt Pans Lesvos 30/04/22 (Porzana porzana)

This diminutive member of the rail family was found by visiting birders foraging in a rapidly drying up pond , adjacent Kalloni Salt Pans., during the last week of April. Normally very skulking ,a scarce passage migrant to Lesvos, this particular bird proved reasonably confiding , particularly at early morning and dusk, where it's shrill "whitting" call was occasionally heard.
Habitat
Muddy pond, adjacent Salt Pans channel.
