King eider
So on a recent trip to Iceland I was made up photographing all the eider, then when I got home I noticed something else in this photo: a king eider. A bird I've long wanted to see was right in front of me and I didn't even notice it!

Oooops!!

Well you got a lovely picture of him CW.

ummmm.... not sure, only ever seen one and that was a few years ago now, but it might be worth checking if the female in the b/g isn't a Steller's Eider? I know they have a double white wing bar, but I can't see the white eye ring, so maybe not.

Lol, I think that happens to all of us from time to time. Congratulations on the wonderful surprise Brien!!!!

..and it is a fabulous shot too... I would have been made up too, only seen the King once. A lovely image.

What a great surprise for you! A very nice group shot, too.

In fact this is a hybrid King Eider x Common Eider as seen by the grey back and facial pattern. Nice photo of a very scarce bird.
