A Day In Late November

Posted Saturday 7th November 2009 at 00:39 by Francis Duggan
Amongst the dense foliage him I cannot see
The goldfinch who sings on the sunlit gum tree
And house sparrows the birds who do not have a song
They chirp in the hedge as they do all day long.

A day in late November a near to perfect day
And in the blue sky there's not one cloud of gray
And the white butterflies seem to dance in the breeze
As they flit around the flowering shrubs and the blossoming trees.

The balmy air full of the buzzings of flies and of bees
And the temperatures perfect just twenty degrees
But the Town water reservoir getting low and bone dry every drain
And people are praying for drought breaking rain.

The house sparrows chirp and a goldfinch does sing
On an afternoon in late November towards the end of the Spring
But the Townpark looks brown and everywhere looks so dry
And there's not a rain cloud in the clear and blue sky.
