What a shower!

With heavy rain this morning the garden was quiet of garden birds! However one bird that enjoyed the torrential rain was this Woodpigeon (pic added) who looked as though it would have stayed there all day with it's wings outstretched enjoying the heavy rain that was beating down on each wing in turn! The trees are getting more bare of leaves as the week goes by, it is surprising how long they have lasted this Autumn! The Silver Birch is looking lovely as the fall of the leaves is exposing it's wonderful paper thin silvery bark that is peeling in small strips! This tree is a magnet for the Robins, Dunnocks and Tits! The Willow is still holding on to the majority of it's leaves, this tree is also a magnet for the same species of birds as the Silver Birch, though Blackbirds are frequently perched in this tree as the branches are seemingly stronger than the Birch tree! The Apple trees are almost bare of leaves, time to spike apples and pears on these trees in readiness for the Blackcaps that normally enjoy the fruit throughout the cold days of Winter!
The sun is now shining!

It must be a thing with the Pigeon/Doves as I have seen both species doing this in our garden when there is a downpour.

I have to say I have only seen the Woodpigeons do this, Marmot! Collared Doves I rarely get in the garden now. I wonder why other species of bird do not do the wing cleaning thing with the rain. I have however seen Blackbirds and Dunnocks lying in the warm sunshine with wings splayed and looking as though they are in pain.lol!!

I did have a photo of a Collared Dove in the bird bath with 2 Starlings having their normal fling the water everywhere, and the Collared Dove was holding its wing up to get the spray from the splashing.

I bet the Woodpigeons would do the same as the Collared Doves if they could fit in to a birdbath with Starlings.lol!
