The Old Stream

Posted Tuesday 3rd November 2009 at 08:26 by Francis Duggan
The stream from the mountain lake flows through the bracken
It babbles on forever by night and day
Down through the old fields and by many a hedgerow
On to the bigger river far away.

It has been flowing through wet and dry Seasons
To the big river to the ocean shore
From it's quiet place of birth the valley by the mountain
It is destined to flow forever more.

It is so old it has been flowing forever
And it has seen many seasons come and go
Down the bracken valley and on through the old fields
To the big river that to the ocean flow.

It has inspired the artists and the writers
And it has been glorified in song and rhyme
From the mountain lake on downhill through the bracken
It will not age or fade away in time.

The old stream from the hill I do remember
And though in reality it flows far north of here
On through the old fields and by many a hedgerow
It's babbling tongue I fancy I can hear.
