- Puffinus bannermani
Identification
27-33 cm; relatively short wings and longish, rounded tail
Upperside is sooty black with more bluish-black head and neck, mainly white underside including undertail coverts, but usually relatively large, dark patch on carpal region of underside of wings.
Distribution
Northern Pacific: breeds on Bonin and Volcano islands south of Japan. Non-breeding range not well known but expected to be relatively near those islands.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
This species has in the past been considered part of either Audubon's Shearwater or Tropical Shearwater but is currently understood to be more closely related to the trio of Townsend's Shearwater, Newell's Shearwater, and Rapa Shearwater.
Habitat

Behaviour
Essentially unknown for the species. It is expected to be similar to other members of the genus Puffinus.
