Unknown call - Uckfield, East Sussex, UK.

I think the twittering through the recording is Greenfinch, with the short buzz near the start being the call that recently fledged Starlings (and their parents) give - I heard my first a couple of days ago.

Petition to AOS Leadership on the Recent Decision to Change all Eponymous Bird Names

In the first sentence it says" "...engage more people in the enjoyment, conservation, and study of birds.." I wonder how many folks have been discouraged from doing this, and how many will now join in. I know I read one blog a while ago by a chap who was genuinely upset by some of the names such...

Owling in the Philippines (including Sulu) and Indonesia

Nice report. Loved the bit about having to hide from the curious villagers, you gave them plenty to tell their families when they got home! πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ¦

    Offshore

For the Bee Eater, I'd suggest some water then let it go asap. It'll hopefully fly when it feels safe to do so. Not much else u can do tbh. πŸ™‚πŸ€žπŸ¦

Early evening bird call - Central Scotland

It does sound very similar to some Great Tit calls, however my guess is a very odd Chaffinch. It gives a clear "chink" towards the end.

Visiting the Algarve for the birds.

There's a FB group called Rare Birds Algarve. For the common stuff I strongly suggest the little books by Goncalo Elias. There are also bird guides who can take you out for a day. 🐦

    Eurasian Curlew or Whimbrel? Tajikistan

I'd go for Whimbrel. I wouldn't be surprised if they pass through.

UK, Horsell Common, Surrey bird call identification

Just had a listen, pretty sure it's not Bullfinches. I think Smiths could well be right with the clicking sounds indicating Jay, plus the strength/volume of the "hΓΌ" calls.
