Nominees for the least intelligent bird in the world

I agree with Pheasant but, for a native bird, Woodpigeon - similar road sense.

Fair Isle Bird Obs Closing for Good?

I agree. I wonder who prepared the budget for the present scheme? Design, build and also manage would be appropriate I suspect. A tender to establish the cost of preliminaries, mark-up etc to enable the ground rules to be laid down in advance would seem sensible.

    Mallorca 2020

Very interesting account Hugh. We have been to Majorca several times starting in 1987 and always enjoyed our family and birding holidays Sadly we won't be able to visit again so it is good to follow this thread and it was also good to read about your experiences and the places you have been. Microscope advice

I bought a microscope from Anglian Lepidopterists Supplies for dabbling with moth dissections. I chose 20x and 40x magnifications. It is pretty basic but does the job okay and is around £200.00 AJ06a is the model I think. More recently I have bought a compound microscope from Brunel for...

    Wildflower for ID

Thanks aeshna5. No we have not put this on BSBI (not sure what this is as I’m mainly birding and moths!) We have sent it to the Gloucestershire County Botanical Recorder to get their view.

    Wildflower for ID

I hadn’t realised that the plant is as extensive as it actually is; I thought it was growing through the “ferny” leaves but they are part of it. Ferny Corydalis (Corydalis chielanthifolia) has been suggested by a friend and that looks right. Thanks for putting us in the right area Ficedula, much...

Any chance of an identification of these please? Seen by my wife this morning in VC33 Glos. Can someone recommend a pocket ID book I could get for fungi identification please so that we could sort out the simpler ones at least? Thanks, Tony

    Bee Swarm, UK

My wife took a general picture of a swarm (150?) of very active bees flying just above ground level over a neglected flower bed which was mainly exposed soil. Occasionally one would disappear underground into various entrance holes in the vertical edge of the adjacent lawn. This was yesterday...
