    Cornwall August seawatch

Currently down in St Ives, Cornwall and wanted to know if any if the weather patterns over the next 10 days are looking good for seawatching either from St Ives, Pendeen or Porthgwarra? Out on a pelagic from Penzance on Saturday but winds are NW after SW/W which I presume would be better to be...

    Hok, Sweden

Hi I'm travelling to Sweden for the first time at the end of November (2016) and travelling from Gothenburg Airport to Hok (just south of Jönköping) for a conference. I will have limited time but wondered if there were any sites en route or locally where I might get some birding in? What...

    Riverside Nature Park, Dundee.

I was in Dundee (well Inchture) today for a business meeting, and I was given a lift back to Dundee Airport around 15:45 and was sure I glimpsed 6+ PF Geese as we passed Riverside Park from Riverside Drive as we headed towards the airport. They were in grassed area that had pool, and the...

    Cala Galdana, Menorca

Just back from a week in Cala Galdana (13-20th August 2015). Stayed in the Confortel (Ilunion) Apartments. Cracking location with Egyptian Vulture, Booted Eagle, Alpine & Pallid Swift seen daily from/over the poolside! The apartments are elevated, skirted on the west by pine woodland and the...

    Little Bunting, Gulval

Hi Tony I did a 30-40 min sortie this morning (07:15-07:45ish) around the area in Gulval you indicated, but as you hinted, no sign of the Little Bunting. A few Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Wren and overhead Raven. I did check some 'weedy' fields further east with no success. I popped down to...

    Pas-de-Calais, Black Woodpecker

Thanks for the quick reply. Foret Domaniale de Guines is only 25 mins away from Coquelles so seems a good option. Large area though, so any tips or links with more precise details would be great of where....or is it a case of striking it lucky! Any details on woods south of Bologne would be...

    Pas-de-Calais, Black Woodpecker

Are there still reliable sites in this region for Black Woodpecker? Considering doing a channel hop early December specifically for this species, and Crested Tit if sites nearby. We will have day length against us so the closer to the Chunnel the better! Any tips or advice welcomed.

    Karlsruhe

Thanks but back in UK now - no time to get out as business so busy, so limited to 'buzzards' from the motorway. Likely to visit again so all above info will be useful -thanks!

    Karlsruhe

Thanks guys - I'm staying in a hotel in central Karlsruhe just north of the zoo and at an exhibition at Messe, but looks like I'll only be able to get early in centre (if at all) and may be a walk from the exhibition centre. Black Woodpecker would be a cracking bird, but not likely where I am I...

    Lakenheath and beyond

Cheers fellas - I recall Lynford Arboretum being good for Hawfinch, but presumably during the winter? Thetford is supposed to be good for Goshawk I've heard, but I guess that's a matter of luck more than anything. Fingers crossed for Sunday! Adam

    Lakenheath and beyond

Hi all Considering a very early trip up to Lakenheath at the weekend for a chance of Golden Oriole and then on to Weeting Heath for Stone Curlew. However I'm not sufficiently familiar with Suffolk/Norfolk to know if there are any other sites nearby that would be worth checking out while I'm up...

    Opticron 8 x42: BGA Classic v BGA WP.PC.AG.N

Cheers BoogieShrew Plumped for the WP PC AG - got some cracking views of a Pallid and male Hen Harrier the same day, and to be honest haven't noticed much difference between them and the BGA Classics, even under poor light conditions. £75 - what a bargain!

    Opticron 8 x42: BGA Classic v BGA WP.PC.AG.N

Thanks BoogieShrew I couldn't fault the BGA Classics - shame I left them somewhere! Tight of money to replace them, and age old story, seen some BGA WPs advertised for £75, but the cheapest pair of BGA classics for £200 - just wondering if the difference in price justifies the quality. Mmmmmm...
