Today- Wicklow 200 veteran cyclists event. Total bird tally (heard or seen from the saddle) was 31. Bird of the day was a Spotted Flycatcher at Aughavanagh. 6 singing male yellowhammers too. Disappointment of the day was no Red Kites around Rathdrum, but weather was fine so they may have gone to the beach. A starling near Rathnew looked remarkably like a Spotless Starling, but that was 170km into the ride, and I was out of my box on endorphins and glucose tablets, so I guess I just hallucinated its spots away. Also a warbler at Drumgoff Bridge sounded like a Garden Warbler, but I´m always wrong so it must have been a Blackcap. The latter thronged the route so they must be cycling fans.

great stuff Eanna - I had a woodpecker fly over the glen of the downs mid May; forgot to mention it - a female.

There was one GSW knocking around Killruddery two weeks ago, but no sign of breeding afaik this year. Maybe a single resident bird left over from a few years back?
