Unknown Sable Island Bird (1 Viewer)

Hello,
I was lucky enough to visit sable island (160 miles off the coast of nova scotia, canada) yesterday for work and i saw this bird flying around,which seemed to resemble a tern, however was dark in colour with a white strip toward the end of its wings. You can zoom in on the picture to see but was unable to get a closer picture. Most of the terns have already left the island but there were a few stragglers. This bird seemed similar in shape but somewhat larger. Staff that are normally on the island did not seem to know either. Any help is much appreciated.

Welcome to BirdForum. I think your bird is a Common Nighthawk. Despite the name, they often fly in the day time. You can see the characteristic white spots on the wings.
