Robin nesting question (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone. So recently we discovered a robin nesting in our garage with 4 eggs. She has been sitting on the eggs for 4 weeks with dad assisting but not one egg hatched. We hadn't seen much action and then went into the garage again to find the robin had returned and laid a further 3 eggs.. 7 in total including the 4 that didn't hatch.
Is this quite normal?

Hi Ruthy and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Robins can lay anywhere between 2 and 9 eggs, though the two extremes are rare, most often between 4 and 6. They are incubated for up to 2 weeks and take a further 2 weeks before they fledge.

It sound like the first lot weren't viable, but normally they'd be removed before starting again. Try not to keep going into the garage if you can, but make sure that they can get in and out unrestricted.

I've moved your post to the more appropriate Birds and Birding forum, where more people are likely to see it.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
