My sister has recently moved to Karlstad.
Can anyone give me some advise on where to go birding, what I might see when I go over for a visit

I'm not familliar with Karlstad or Värmland (the county) but "svalan", the swedish bird reporting system might be able to help you:

You can search for sightings around Karlstad or the enire county of Värmland for instance.

Hopefully someone from that area will reply to this as well.
