The Opticron ES 80 GA ED/45 is the updated version of the Opticron ES 80 GA Waterproof, but more expensive!. Both scopes have ED glass.

The ES 80 GA is a nice scope ( I have one ). If you get one try to get a HFF eyepiece ( HDF is better than HR eyepieces )

The Opticron ES 80 GA SD/45 has standard optical glass and so is more susceptable to image abberations.

good old Opticron always confusing the issue!!

The two scopes are identical. What has happened is this...

Originally Optircon made one ES80 and this was marked the ES80 GA waterproof. This scope used ED glass. In their infinite wisdom Opticron have decided to launch a cheaper ES80 the ES80 SD/45 they've therefore rebadged the original ES80 GA waterproof as the ES80 ED/45.

I would agree that for the money the ED is a cracking buy. I've got the zoom eyepiece but after using the x32 WA I'm very tempted to get it.

I was looking at Opticrons web price, and remembering that I got mine 15 months ago for something like £450 which included the 32xHDF and S.O.C. Can't remember what Opticrons list price of the body was at that time!.
