Hi - can any body tell me about Short-eared Owls and other raptors at Eldernell please. Do I need to walk west, east (and how far), or hang around the car park area ? Hoping to visit over the holiday period.
Called in on saturday, stayed in the car park and had 6+ SE owls ( all seen at once} and marsh harriers. Missed out on hen harriers but the showed later on.
Went to Eldernell last Monday afternoon. From 1400 at least seven Short-eared Owls active within a couple of hundred yards of the car park. Couple of Cranes also briefly seen.
visited 14th March hopefully to see if any short eared owls were around, sorry to say did not see them, however 2 cranes, 2 marsh harrier, red kite right over the carpark, then just as it was getting dark, a super Male Hen harrier dropped into the reeds to the left of the car park
As we seam to be posting every few years. Sparrow hawk, Pair Marsh harriers and 20+ Canada Geese on the pond. Staying on the rised bank, heading towards Whittlesey - Teal, Mallard, Mute swans and Bean Goose. Missed the Cattle Egret this time; but keeping close eye on livestock movement.
