Could someone please confirm this one for me, in this morning's trap. I think it's a Clouded Drab, but I'm not sure:

When was the photo taken Aquila? looks like a var of the Silver Ground Carpet to me but they're not out yet.

It's got me stumped Aquila. It looks fairly worn judging by the difference of scale patterning. The Silver-Ground Carpet isn't usually on the wing until May. It could, I suppose, be one that has been 'forced' by the overwintering larvae feeding up in a greenhouse which gets warm on most sunny days. But its a problem identifying it. Nothing else in my books comes close. Sorry.

Blow me, Chris you could be right. Certainly it's within the flight period. Having looked at the picture again (with my glasses on this time) It's certainly a 'Pug' a pity it's worn, but that's mothing. It's supposedly a common species but I don't get it here.

I think that's it Chris! Surprising that it's so worn by late March, but maybe they emerge earlier than normal down here in the far South-west.
Thanks to both of you for your assistance.
Andy

If its Double-striped Pug (and it looks right to me too) it should be really small. I was struck by how small the one I had a couple of days ago was. The wingspan is as little as 15mm. Always a good idea to give an indication of size with a pic for ID.
