Not much birding this week due to rain.
Most observations are from home and while driving.
One day while watching from the window noticed a House sparrow fledgling displaying to be fed. Mama hopped over and was feeding the fledgling when another House sparrow hopped over and nestled up to the fledgling. It was very much a display of comforting the fledgling. I was pretty amazed.
This morning I watched as our seed inhaling squirrel and a Brown Thrasher chased each other quite vigorously around our tree. Was pretty fast paced.
Had to rearrange our feeders to accommodate the squirrel as he would get into our mixed bird seed and empty the feeder in short order just to get the sunflower seeds. There was an enormous amount of seed on the ground due to our feeder pole falling over last week and the squirrel scattering the seed from the feeder.
We determined that the sheppards hook was not going to work with the squirrel so we took our broken feeder pole to Wes's Tire here in town and they welded the base for $5.00. the pole is now much stronger than when we bought it. We have a squirrel baffle for this pole which would not fit on the sheppards hook. So mixed seed is safe again, although the birds empty it within a few hours. We have placed the sunflower feeder on the sheppards hook and the squirrel seems content with that.

Virtually no water fowl, no gulls near the lake.
We saw our only gulls on the drive home. A farmer was seeding his field, several miles from the lake, and there were at least 50 Franklin's Gulls on the ground feeding behind the seeder.
We saw a Red Tailed Hawk on a hydro pole as it flew off a small bird seemed to just appear and immediately started to attack the hawk. It appeared to land on the hawks back a few times while in flight.
A few new birds for us this week.
