An Oriole visited our Oriole feeder with a large chunk of food last week. Try as it might it was unable to force this food into one of the feeding ports on the feeder. It tried for about 5 minutes. The Oriole finally gave up and flew away. Was surprised that it didn’t soak its food in our bird bath which was only a few feet away from the Oriole feeder.
Have changed from bin type feeders to tube feeders as the birds were scattering the seed and emptying the bin feeders in a few hours. The tube feeders hold just about as much seed but it takes the birds pretty much all day to empty them.
Sparrows have now taken over the feeders, challenging any bird that approaches.
Earlier today there were more than 50 Grackles on or near our front lawn.

Winnipeg 29 July

We make an unexpected trip to Winnipeg last week to photograph a bird of a different sort. The Andrew Mynarski V.C. Memorial Lancaster Bomber paid a visit to the Western Canada Aviation Museum. We positioned ourselves at the end of the runway and got some pictures of it as it came in to land, then a few more when it parked at the museum. (Picture attached)
