Loompit and the Trimley Marshes (1 Viewer)

I managed to get to Loompit Lake adjacent to Levington Marina on the North Shore of the River Orwell this afternoon, my time was rather limited. This lake is always worth a visit, the estuary had 7 Great Crested Grebe on a high tide in one group and on the lake one little egret and many nesting cormorant. 20+ Tufted and 4 Pochards were spotted.

I have counted 75 Cormorant in the dead trees and am informed that 45+ little egret roost at Loompit.

A mile or so further on is Trimley Marshes, a veritable haven for all sorts of waders and geese/duck etc, at least 5 hides are available and a visitors centre run by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust is open a few days a week. It is quite difficult to get to this site as the route from Levington is over rough terrain and could be better approached from Searsons Farm at Trimley especially for those that may be partially disabled.
