I shall be in this area of Sweden in late February. Has anybody any suggestions about good places for birds in the area?

Try here http://www.artportalen.se/birds/todays.asp locations given are pretty specific normally down to the nearest farm. Local members of the public are very helpful knowlegeable regarding birds and will normally point you in the right direction. Not sure how far away you would be from Vastmanland but if you are flexible it might be worth contacting Daniel Green who runs birdwatching weekends and other tours. seehttp://www.birdsafarisweden.com/
