I recently bought, secondhand and locally, the above combo. This is an experiment prior to possibly buying an MM4, to see if I can 'switch' to a smaller scope for general use. Firstly, I am very impressed with the IS 60R...it is marketed as a starter/budget scope, but it is no slouch, and outperforms my other 'lightweights'. Anyway...my question: on the Opticron website, it says the 40931 ep gives 25x, and needs an adapter. But it doesn't need an adapter, as far as I can tell. The 40931 screws directly into the IS 60 R body (which has three different sets of threads for different eps). Am I missing something?

The adapter is not needed for the physical connection but it might be that you cannot acheive infinity (or very distant) focus without it. You'd need to test it on distant clouds or similar to check.

hm - last time I checked, in order to get to infinity focus you have to bring the eyepiece closer to the objective... so an adapter is not going to help with that.
More probably the adapter is really a spacer which brings the EP further away in order to get a useful close focus.
