Hey there! I'm a Texas born photographer that has become really quite interested in birding after a trip to Australia. I'm really keen to learn more about the natural environments that birds find themselves in how it effects their behavior as well as improving my spotting and local knowledge base. I've already reached out to the local Audubon society and am looking forward to my first bird walk!

But in the meantime, I've preoccupied myself with nature walking and some solo practice. I've read up on ethical guidelines, and they fall broadly within my own hiking practices, but is there anything else I should be aware of? Thanks in advance!

Attached is one of the first bird shots I've done, with an old Canon 300mm

Hi Reston and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. That's a super picture you've taken of the Rainbow Lorikeets... such entertaining birds, aren't they! Noisy too LOL. I hope we may be able to see more of your pictures in the Gallery too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi Reston and a warm welcome to you from me in Myrtle Beach ;) I hope you enjoy your time with us.

Hi Reston and welcome to the forum. If you are already an ethical hiker you will have no problem being an ethical birder. Of course the biggest is not to disturb the birds or their nesting sites. The ABA has a guide for new birders:
.

And you live in a very diverse state for birding, embrace it and have fun.
