Going to NJ in October (1 Viewer)

I will be in New Jersey in late October (Oct. 26 & 27).

I'm going to the Breeders' Cup (a horse racing event) at Monmouth Park. I will be staying with my cousin who lives in Colts Neck. I will most likely go to see her new house she is having built on 26 acres of farm land, which I believe she said is in Monmouth County (not sure of the town).

This isn't really a birding trip but it would be nice to add a bird or two to my life list.

What are some birds I can expect to see at that time of the year?? Which birds are pretty common and most likely for me to see without really trying??

If you can sneak off for a morning, head to Sandy Hook. It's only about 30 minutes from Colts Neck and it will be sure to produce a nice mixture of species. That time of year you might be lucky enough to catch the tail end of summer species heading south and the front end of wintering species coming down.

Unfortunately I will only be in NJ Fri and Sat. Both days I will be attending the Breeders Cup at Monmouth Park in Ocean Park.

I don't think I will have any time to do any real birding. The Breeder Cup is an all day event.

I was just curious to know what the common, easy to spot, birds are for that area of New Jersey in late October.

I wish I did have a day to spare to go birding.
