Getting serious (1 Viewer)

No worries. I think self-drive is the way to go; if you only have a few days, you want to maximize your time in the field. We ended up using public transportation and hiring drivers, because we went to Wild Sumaco and were told that the road needed a 4x4, which was much more expensive than a small car. However, a small car would have had no issues with that road, so that was a little irksome. Just use the usual caution not to leave anything in the vehicle, etc., and it should be no problem. If you have a free morning to go up to Papallacta Pass, it's totally worth it, and if you bird your way up, there are a lot of places on the way. Check out the http://birdsinecuador.com site mentioned below for details.
