Fledgling Kestrel Phoenix (time) (1 Viewer)

The following information, pertaining to American Kestrels, was taken directly from the Arizona Breeding Bird Atlas (Troy Corman and C. Wise-Gervais, 2005):

"... and desert nesting pairs can initiate breeding as early as late winter. Observers reported the earliest occupied nests on 21 March and discovered a nest containing young on 25 March. This Record indicates that egg laying occurred by mid to late February. The earliest fledglings were noted on 3 May."

Nesting is delayed at higher elevations.

All the best.
