Finland summer 2009 (2 Viewers)

John,

We had been staying in a villa in Oravi, which is part of a large complex including a hotel. The seals were the reason that we decided to stay there. We booked our evening trip from there. We spent two and a half hours flitting from place to place on Lake Linnansari before we found one. We thought that we had missed our chance as it was starting to get dark and we had began to make our way back.
The seals spend all of the time in the water in August and a lot of that time is spent hunting for fish, which makes them very difficult to see.

I've put a trip report on Jon's mammal site. We visited several of the places that you did. We were lucky with the seal but missed out on a lot of other things.

I've read the report now. Man, you put some effort in for what you got!

I feel guilty for having had a few sorties during basically a family holiday and been extremely lucky. Great country though, left me with a definite appetite for more.

John
