Emei Shan gen (1 Viewer)

Anyone been to Emei Shan over the last few years with any tips on specialities ? Especially Lady Amherst's P, Temminck's Tragopan and the Liocichla. I realise Wawa Shan is probably better but figured Emei maybe easier to get to, and with more to see for a non-birding companion. Is this so ?

Cheers,

Larry

Larry, if you want to see Lady A then Wawu is much much easier. If you organise transport to drive you down from the accommodation by the cable car you will see Lady A at dawn or early evening anywhere from the small waterfall down for the next 2km.

Liocichla is common at Wawu but still can be tricky to get nice views, also common at Emei anyway. Tragopan is possible at either site but not easy or as confiding as at Wuyipeng unfortunately, I have seen several at Emei above and below Xianfeng Monastery when it has been quiet.

Both sites are great, the bamboo and dwarf forest on the Wawu plateau is stunning scenery and a lovely walk, though the Emei Monasteries are a wonderful experience to stay at. Wawu is easy to reach with bus from Chengdu, then take a park bus to the accommodation by the cable car - very easy.

Hey Larry - sorry I aint been in these forums for a bit. I'm based in Chengdu - if you're still around and want to get up to Wawu give us a shout - I was thinking of taking up there soon for a short trip.
