Hi

I will be visiting Pittsbutgh on business and would appreciate any idea of good birding areas local to the city. Also would you reccommend a good identification guide

Cheers

I would imagine that your trip to Pittsburgh is done but in the future the Western Pa. Audubon has its home headquarters not far from downtown. It is located in the Fox Chapel area about 10 miles northeast of the city. The nature reserve is known as Beechwood Farms. Nice facilities, lots of acreage to walk and a huge library and store. The people that work there are great mostly volunteers and there is a native garden supply store there. Further up the Allegheny river is Todds Sanctuary with about 140 acres of birding. To the northwest is Raccoon state park with a nice spring wildflower trail. Just a few place to get started.
