Bird spotted -banks of Dodder river, Dublin, Ireland (1 Viewer)

I saw this bird on the banks of the river this morning- don't think I have ever seen it before.


Any help with identification would be greatly appreciated

Common sandpiper. Note bit of white pointing upwards in front of wing; your field guide will show other similar species which do not have this feature.

I normally see them first a couple of weeks later in the year, I don't know if it is an early migrant this year or if I just haven't been paying attention
