Just returned from a trip to Auckland from the US. Had some down time and took the ferry to Tiritiri Matangi Island. Highly recommended to see some rare birds. Only one I couldn't get a picture of was a Saddlebird (saw some but they were skiddish and I couldn't get any pictures), and the Penguins were no where to be found.

Overall tagged over 19 lifers for me (still trying to figure out a couple more). You also get the bonus of seeing various sea birds on the trip over - Australasian Gannet, White-Faced Heron (in Gulf Harbor), Fluttering Shearwater, Black-Backed Gulls, and what look to be some Petrals (still working the id's on them).

If you take a camera to Tiritiri you need a fast lens. My f5.6 was way too slow.

Cheers -
Jerry
