    this one was a lifer. And I had hopes for this shot until I realized I'd got the settings all wrong. I was hoping it would turn out as clear and sharp as I was seeing it, and all lit up with the sun shining through the bird's fanned tail. But oh well. I got what I got, and hopefully some day...

    A rather poor photo of my first Buff-bellied Hummingbird (lifer #315), seen along a trail at Santa Ana NWR. The buff belly and bright red bill aren't really visible in this heavily cropped photo, but the dark green plumage and rufous tail are easily seen.
