    Bobolink-like birds in upper Austria

Hello, I was recently in Austria and noted two birds from a train window. They were black, but I noticed what appeared to be a pale patch on the head similar to a Bobolink from the US. They were similar in size, giss, and behavior to Red-winged Blackbirds from the US. They were flapping around...

Been scanning some old pics from 1969. Needs Photoshop but that's a mystery to me.
  11. Red footed Falcon

    Red footed Falcon

This lovely little falcon seems to be expanding slowly Eastwards through Central Europe. The closest and most populous colonies are in Hungary and each year sees more (mostly juvenile) birds turning up in Austria.

    Penduline Tit

Another superb little reedland bird, the Penduline Tit sat up and allowed me this early morning shot!
  13. Bluethroat

    Bluethroat

I was up at dawn (0500hrs) to listen and find my lovely Bluethroats at Neusiedl in Austria last month. The wait was worth it when this beautiful bird sang, flew around the reeds displaying and finally settled, just as the morning sun lit the corner of the marsh.
  14. Marsh Harrier

    Marsh Harrier

The 320 square km lake of Neusiedl on the Austrian border with Hungary has quite an unparalleled assortment of wildlife. Marsh Harriers are very common and with patience and some early morning walks to good vantage points, reasonable photos of this lovely bird can be had ....and you can listen...
  15. Bee-eaters

    Bee-eaters

This Bee-eater colony had not long arrived at their communal nesting site and there were a few 'light tussles' to claim last year's tunnels and nest chambers. Tree Sparrows a resident bird and therefore and earlier breeding species in Central Europe, had occupied some of the nest holes, putting...
