There is a thread dedicated to Tice's Meadow, here: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=194943&page=56 They are probably there all the time, but virtually impossible to see. The only way they've been found in recent days is to go out onto the marsh and flush them.

I don't know exactly where the bird is, but you can park in the village Matt.

At least two singing birds at Crooksbury Common at the moment. There is a path which runs through the middle of the common, down a hill, with a small pond at the bottom. They are mostly singing around that area.

They are probably non-biting Midges, but thats all I can speculate on without a description. Put your hand up into the swarm, and you may get a glimpse as they briefly alight.

A fantastic experience being at Papercourt this afternoon watching at least 6 Short-eared Owls. They didn't appear until nearly 16:00. http://www.birdforum.tv/action/viewvideo/3332/Short_eared_Owls___Surrey/ Also a Little Owl by Papercourt Farm and two drake Goosander on the main gravel pit.

I don't know for sure, but as 6 were reported recently, I would very much doubt that they have all left (possible I suppose)! Certainly worth going on spec. Barn and Little Owls certainly still about there. Good luck.

Although there have been no 'official' sightings of the Shrike recently, I'm pretty sure the bird is still there. I chatted to a guy who goes there very often, a few days ago, and it was still there then, despite the lack of reports on SBC website etc. As usual for the species, the bird is...

There are a lot of old Oaks and Willows along the River Wey, and they could be in any of these. I find the area around Papercourt lock most productive. There is a particular line of old Willows to the south-east of the lock where I've seen them most often. Just west of the lock is where the...

I originally told Johnny Allan on site it was about 3:00pm, but I think it was more like 2:30. It was 2:40 when I sent the message to Birdguides anyhow. It showed briefly again at around 4:30, after my walk (although I didn't see it). No news on it today. I presume no-ones looking.

Or, I could give it from the horses mouth, Clive! Even though the bird isn't that rare, it was quite a heart-stopping experience when it appeared! It was seen again in the evening, in the same place. Worth going today if anyone wants to. I think the butterflies and plants (such as Autumn...

Red-rumped Swallow showing well at Unstead SF this evening. I did manage some footage of it, but I doubt its up to much!

Buzzards are now everywhere. So if you think you saw one, you probably did.

You call that quiet?! What did you expect to see, a Roller?! For me, thats a great days birding, particularly on heathland. I know people who would kill for a Lesser Spot. Whinchat pretty rare in Surrey at this time of year too.

There are many males in the flock many in near full summer plumage. If there are as many there as I saw on Thursday, you shouldn't have any problem locating them. They were very mobile, being seen at the base of the north slope of Shrike Hill, behind the tumulus, and on the north edge of...

This has just appeared on the Sussex Ornithological Society website, is there anyone closer who can check it out?: ''Driving along the M25 clockwise, just after Junction 9 at Leatherhead, I am 99% sure I saw a common crane landing by the river this morning at around 9am. I don't know any Surrey...

I had a good look around Witley Common this morning, but no sign of the Redpoll flock. I found just two Lessers in with a flock of Siskin and Goldfinch. They may have moved to neighbouring heaths (Mare Hill or Thursley?) but my car was sick, so couldn't check them out. Did have 6 Crossbill...

Got a third hand report of a Bittern at Stoke Meadows, Guildford, this afternoon. Apparently it flew around at 17:00, but I don't know anything more.

Yes, there are some there throughout the day. I saw 8 last Saturday at 12:00.

Yes, but we are still at the time for winterers, so thats okay. When the details of a singing bird are released it becomes a different matter. Don't worry about it, I have been responsible for exactly the same thing before, and I learnt my lesson (although I do think that Firecrest has become...

No problem with your ID. Definately a Hen Harrier. You've answered your own question when it comes to reporting. Surrey Birders is the place to put it first. Then go to the Surrey Bird Club website: http://www.surreybirdclub.org.uk/index.html , and check to see if Hen Harrier is a species...

You may have been, Matt. The main lake you can see from the road is not the lake the birds tend to be on. The correct bit of water is hidden behind the trees (you get to it via a walk along a side-road marked as private, on the right after the water if your coming from the Elstead direction).

I was there between 9:00 and 10:00, and walked around Dogflud Way a few times, and checked nearby shapes in trees (Starlings or Thrushes). I noticed there was an aggressive Mistle Thrush guarding the main berry-filled bush opposite the Riverside Ind Est, so I wondered whether that was putting...

No sign of any Waxwings at Dogflud Way or its environs this morning. :-C A look at Frensham was uneventful too, despite there being hundreds of birds (mostly Coot) on an ice-free area of the Great Pond.
