    Birds fae Torry

Had cracking views of gannets feeding close in to the foghorn and a second (dark phase) arctic skua joining the paler one that's been around for a while.

Thanks for confirming that it was a moorhen I briefly saw when out for a run at lunchtime. Best recent sighting for me was a young cuckoo when playing golf on Thursday afternoon.

It certainly felt that there were plenty of migrants around yesterday. Only had about an hour (at lunchtime in the mist and drizzle) so headed up to the Battery. Poor views of a small brown warbler (skulking in a bush) on the way make me unsure of its identity. A Stonechat and numerous thrushes...

    Birds fae Torry

Black Redstart on rocks west along low path from the Battery (and also on the breakwater), first seen at lunchtime but still there around 6pm. Looked like an immature male. Seems early for one of these to turn up... Dunlin and a flock of about 25 Knot also seen.

Aye, it seems the local Starlings weren't keen for it to hang about.

I was tempted to head back up again yesterday but the wind put me off... Shame you didn't see any noteworthy migrants.

Sounds great! I headed up at lunchtime (from car park next to Doonies) in hope of finding the Shrike but no luck. We maybe didn't go far enough...

I decided to take a walk from Nigg Bay to Greg Ness at lunchtime. Saw two Short-eared Owls flying around the field east of the mast. Thanks for the tip!

    Birds fae Torry

Had good views this afternoon and wondered what is was feeding on. Didn't realise it was crabs. Hopefully there's enough to keep it in the area a while longer. Chap who sits opposite me went to get some photos but I don't know how they turned out. A male Red-breasted Merganser was also seen near...

I am pleasantly surprised to have a close view of a drake Long-tailed Duck in the harbour whilst eating my lunch.

I have never seen a Red-throated Diver before so was very pleased to get a good view of one in the harbour (from the office window) today. Do they hang around in the summer (it would be nice to see the red throat)?

Wish I was better at identifying gulls... Had a little look around the rowing club area on my way home at lunchtime but didn't see the Glauc.

Cheers for the info. Shame I left work at 16:30 so couldn't check it out on the way home...

    Birds fae Torry

Was happy to see a Short Eared Owl just after 1pm today near the Battery. There was some sitting in the sun and some flying... It eventually flew of south after being harassed by a gull. Have also had some nice views of a male Goosander in the harbour, from the office window, this week (although...

    Birds fae Torry

What time? I was in the area between about 4-5pm & didn't see anything... Was still a pleasant evening but spoilt by my binoculars breaking :-C [I suspect my planned trip to the Ythan tomorrow will now be less enjoyable]

    Birds fae Torry

I think it was someone else as it was on the golf course in the middle of the afternoon... Went back the next day but didn't see any Short-eared Owls. Got a glimpse, out of the office window this morning, of a bird that I haven't seen before. Saw the usual, looking towards the harbour...

    Birds fae Torry

Didn't notice any of the birds you mention (I should pay more attention to gulls...) but did see a Short-eared Owl flying about over the golf course. A helpful chap I bumped into said he'd seen two.

    Birds fae Torry

Cheers for the info. Would be interested to know if anyone else sees it. I may be able to finish work early on Monday to have a look (if it's likely to still be around). I also need to look for the other birds I've managed to miss there as well (Purple Sandpiper, Razorbill, Red-throated Diver)...
