On Saturday morning, my scheduled flight offshore was cancelled, so at about 9 am I found myself free to wander. Despite the very wet fog making things a bit uncomfortable, and no binoculars, I decided to check out this patch, of which I have heard so much. Given the conditions, and the lack of...

I've seen more Common Sandpipers on my patch than in any previous season. Looks like they have had a good year.

I'm within sight of Edinburgh at Kinghorn. The day before yesterday, we had an influx of Blackbird and Song Thrush. The Song Thrush were quite furtive. Also present were groups of Mistle Thrush. They were very visible in the tops of conifers.

The advice I have read is that RSPCA are dealing with sick birds.

I found a dead crow at Kinghorn loch yesterday. With so many dead seabird victims of Avian Flu around, it makes sense that carrion eaters such as corvids and gulls will be next in line.

You are getting plenty of Black Guillemot sightings. Do you think you have a breeding population?

I saw a bit of Springwatch last night where they showed photos from a Gannet colony. Basically, they are getting wiped out. Prediction is that there is worse to come.:cry::cry:

I flew in to Aberdeen this morning! Worst helicopter journey in 32 yrs. Spent an hour battling to hold on to my breakfast, while some around me were losing theirs. Then found there were no trains running. Managed to get a bus to Dundee, although social distancing a thing of the past. Train home...

I would have to agree with Bottle-nosed Dolphin. The dorsal fins are too sharp ended and raised to be Pilot Whales.

I agree with Speckled Wood. It was only a few years ago that they were very scarce in Fife. Now they are a staple on my Seafield patch. Hawthorn is what they like, so if you have a good quantity of that you may end up with a breeding population.

I can see Musselburgh across the water from Seafield, so I'll be expanding south also. 😛 Come to think of it, on a good day I can see the Isle of May. 🤪

Funnily enough, the big Red/white boat you see just after the 2 min mark, is the boat that supplies my platform.

Show-off! 3:-) I've had no more than 6 at one time at Seafield this year. I noticed on Autumn Watch that they mentioned they are getting fewer Purps on the Isle of May each year. Reason given was that with global warming, they don't need to travel as far south.

Just updated my North Sea thread. There is a definite sizable movement of migrants heading your way.:t:

Petition signed and Tweeted. I know the feeling. There is housing being built towards the edge of the loch at Kinghorn, and apparently, permission has been granted for a large scale housing and school build connecting Kinghorn to Kirkcaldy along the back of the Seafield strip. Time for a move...

Calm before the storm hopefully. Wind has now swung back to being out of the East. Forecast to remain like that until Tuesday, so should be a fresh influx of migrants.:t:
