Now that you've sorted out your birds, when are you going to start jacking up your football team? Happy New Year from South Africa Dave

After averaging 76 for the outward nine they decided to take up bowls. The clubs are in the sea. Word is that they have already been colonised by sea anemones and barnacles. Dave

Season's Greetings Compliments of the Season to the Torry Gang from sunny South Africa. Might come as a surprise, but I would kill to see some snow again. Keep up the good work - I really enjoy your contributions. Dave

Is this an unusually large influx of Waxwings, Andew? I lived the first 22 years of my life in UK, and never saw one. And in all my visits since I have failed to find one. Do these irruptions result from tough conditions in Scandinavia, or the strong wind systems that have been affecting the UK...

I live in South Africa, so can't even tell which one is supposed to be the Iceland Gull. Please remember us foreigners, and say things like "It's the one on the left", or something of the sort. Best wishes, Dave

Enlarging on the seal theme.....here's three photos from my Archive. The first two show a Grey seal, and the third is a common seal. All were photographed at Machrihanish in Kintyre. Note the straight muzzle of the grey seal. If you could see it face on, it would have parallel nostrils. The...

Here's a picture of a mink I took in April this year at Kennacraig in Kintyre. It had just come out of the sea, where it had been foraging among the rocks. Perhaps this is what you saw? Best wishes, Dave

Thanks for the information about these quaint dwellings, although I don't suppose they were the lap of luxury for those living in them. Nevertheless, it's always sad when a piece of history gets pulled down and replaced with something which, regrettably, is rarely better. Dave K

Hey, Andrew - Came across a nice picture of Torry today. Which one's yours? By the way, the lighthouse in among the houses is a nice touch. Regards, Dave K

Old Aberdeen I have been writing, purely for personal reasons, an account of Aberdeen as it was in the 1940's and 1950's. I contacted the University of Aberdeen for help with illustrations, particularly concerning the harbour and fish market area. They very kindly sent me a great deal of...

Andrew - take a look at these two from, I think, the 1920's. I actually remember the crane, if not the incident! Regards, Dave Kennedy PS - I see I got them the wrong way round - but i am sure that you can figure out that the big splash is the first one. That's what did the damage.

Congrats to Aberdeen on their 4-0 drubbing of Copenhagen. It's a long time since the Dons gave me anything to cheer about. Now Aberdeen can boast not only a pair of king eiders and the occasional purple sandpiper, but a football team as well. Best wishes, Dave Kennedy

Pmydon - I live in South Africa, and I watch Birds fae Torry. Cumbria is just over the border - it's just a nice drive from there to Aberdeen. In my recent visits to UK I have driven Cornwall-Glasgow, Gloucester - Glasgow, Campbeltown - Aberdeen, Glasgow - Cley-next-the sea........there's...

Hi, Andrew, My spies tell me that your Calmac ferry was Hebridean Isles, in Aberdeen for her annual overhaul since 11th November. She was en route back to Port Ellen, Islay, and then to Kennacraig to resume her normal Kennacraig - Port Ellen/Port Askaig service. Well done with the Queen Eider...

Hi, Andrew, Delighted to find your Torry thread. My Mum came from Aberdeen, and as a child back in the 'forties and fifties I spent many happy days down by Greyhope Bay looking for shore crabs. If I remember rightly I used to catch the No. 17 bus through Torry to get there. With regard to...
