Yep, I had a Shag the day before Valentine's Day. As always, I'm suffering from premature identification

    Derbyshire County Birding

Sorry this is late, but I was at Carsington yesterday and 90% certain had a Shag. Only had bins and I was looking off Stones Island towards Millfields. It was really difficult to watch on the water (surf was up, dudes!), but it then flew way off heading into Hopton Arm, though it might have...

Afternoon at Carsington. 2 Whimbrels off Stones Island on the next rocky island (don't know what it's called), they were flying over Stones Island calling for a while then settled at 3.45 and were still there when we left after 4. Little Gull at the Wildlife Centre. Both divers between Sheepwash...

    Derbyshire County Birding

Hi Dave, glad to hear a few got it. I waited around for a while but I couldn't find a single birder to tell. Had to leave suddenly when my daughter went into meltdown!

Wood Warbler at Carsington today on Stones Island in the first little patch of silver birch & scrub on the right. It was singing around 2.30 and showing quite well. Also 2 Little Gulls by the Wildlife Centre, 5 Lesser Whitethroats and a single Common Whitethroat singing between Sheepwash and the...

Did a long vigil in Shire Hill wood Wednesday morning doing regular playback for Wood Warbler - nil. 2 Spotted Fly, at least 2 Pied Fly, 3 Tree Pipits, Cuckoo, Tawny Owl and a pair of Stock Doves are nesting in the quarry. Grasshopper Warbler by Swineshaw reservoir on Thursday afternoon and a...

Hi Steph, As far as I know they've not come back to Shire Hill in Glossop this year - I've been in a few times since mid April and I know a couple of other people have as well. No idea why, the wood hasn't changed, if anything it's better because the quarry is no longer being worked. Still Tree...

Q, the whole of the moors up at the top of the A628 Woodhead Pass are riddled with them. I rarely drive over without seeing them flying about or sitting on the wooden stakes by the roadside. If you want to park up and have a wander around then just go along the minor road to Dunford Bridge...

    Derbyshire County Birding

I did hear that, but I didn't think it was in Derbyshire? I've been checking decent looking sites for Gos around Glossop for a couple of years and nada. Regarding other raptors: Buzzards are certainly increasing up here in the north Dark Peak, and Peregrines are still breeding. There's also a...

Without mentioning sites, is it true that there are no longer any breeding Goshawks in north-west Derbyshire/Derwent valley?

No sign Black-throated Divers this afternoon from Sheepwash 2pm-4.30pm. I saw one Great Northern, but whilst watching this individual out in the middle of the main body of water, there were apparently 2 more Great Northerns showing from the Wildlife Centre. I could only see one bird from Sheepwash.
