I think I know what you mean, but can you clarify... A "check list" with added details like time of year and specific locations and a "species list" with just species names? Two "lists" in the Galapagos (and similar) entries, or in all entries? Should both lists contain the same species, or...

I'd even go so far as to say just 5. It leaves a comfortable gap for users who have their default text size larger, and makes it easier to count the total number of species |=)| I'd like to stress that we shouldn't be hard coding the check lists like this though... it should be relatively...

Not sure that I've understood correctly, but I've added an alternative to the bottom of the page, which has simulated check boxes.

I've just had a go at doing this myself using a generic parent category: Georgia When a site is created for the country Georgia, it should have [[Category: Georgia (country)]] added to it. I've already created that category and listed it in Europe and the generic parent category.

I've made changes to list as the U.S. state, which will hopefully prevent others from encountering the same problem. Although we're talking about categories, someone should probably set up a brief disambiguation article.

The Europe Category page lists all entries that have [[Category:Europe]] in them. In the article for the new country just add [[Category:Europe]] These pages list 200 entries, and as there are less than 200 I entries, the subsequent letters are also listed, up until 200 entries are covered. On...

For categories there is a help page, but it doesn't go into every detail. There is also post #63 of this thread, where I explained how I set up the listing entries with a certain category behaviour I wanted. I think this post also answers some of your questions.

I wasn't suggesting that phrases like "National Park" be removed... only hinting that we should be consistent in where we draw the line (if we draw one!). My local patch is called "Bestwood Country Park" and removing the "Country Park" bit would imply a different location. So I think I'm...

Just had a quick scan of the above... will write more later tonight, but... Delia, yes I was referring to those types of categories |=)| I think I have worked out the high-level category thing, so briefly... If [[Category:Locations]] is the only content of an article, it will be listed as a...

I'm for keeping the check list as one. For species mentioned in the check list, it should be pretty obvious from the site's location, whether or not there's a chance of seeing a species at a given time of year. (Migration range is better left to the species entry, rather than in the locations...

Bird Check List The check list is something that has the potential to be over-engineered - there's just so many possible and useful things that could be done with it, but they would generally involve technical changes. For the time being, I'd suggest sticking to the existing type of list for...

Location Titles I've briefly scanned all posts since my last one, so if I have missed a point then just give me a nudge ;) My view is strip all (unnecessary) info from the titles, and leave only what a site would be referred to locally, but using the full correct/official name. This might...

Using double square brackets [[like this]]. It may work if you use the full URL too (i.e. with http://), but I'm not sure.

If the links are done correctly, then they shouldn't break. That's one of the advantages of using that system |=)|

My (quick) opinion is that you just use the common site name in full. If two or more sites have the exact same common name, then you append the country in brackets afterwards (this is the normal wiki convention). Also spell out abbreviations in full (i.e. don't use "NWR" use "National Wildlife...

Really nice work André. You've set a precedence for the rest of us... I can see a lot of thought and effort has gone into your entries.:t:

I noticed one of the Swiss sites you'd done a few weeks back - looked great |=)| I think the main headings (i.e. ==) should be present in all (non-stub) entries, and the sub-headings (i.e ===) should be added eventually (when we've finalized what they should be). If there isn't enough content...

Well I was meaning more generally in my last post... My problem with "Nearby Sites" maybe just something personal to me... suppose I want to visit a site and I see on its Opus entry that there are a few "nearby sites"... I think "great, I can visit them all in a day". but I arrive there to find...

    Template/format for all locations

Out of curiosity, are you envisioning that articles will be mainly written by one author, or by contributions from several authors? Of course, entries are initially created by one author, but my thoughts were towards the latter - that Opus entries are collaboratively authored. What does...

Probably depends on whether it's embedded into the page (i.e appears like an image would) or not. If not then external links seems like the best place. With regards to nearby sites... I think this is best left to the reader to decide from a (Google?) map. What I was alluding to earlier is that...

In the main Yorkshire article the sites are listed directly in the article... whereas the category listing is all sites with "Yorkshire" as a category (i.e. the list is generated automatically). To add sites to the automatic list then just edit them and add "Yorkshire" as a category. I guess...

An update to the categories thing... I've managed to get the type of behaviour I was aiming for: Go to the Blacktoft Sands entry Clicking the Yorkshire category at the bottom will go to the category page for Yorkshire which lists all entries with Yorkshire as a category (just two sites at the...

    Template/format for all locations

I didn't see a Yorkshire category in the one I edited... but I've now changed the RSPB one into Yorkshire and moved it to the front. I think it needs adjusting further to find the Yorkshire page though. I added one for RSPB as I was actually expecting categories to behave differently... not...

Done... please comment on anything you're* not keen on. I liked your idea of putting Other Wildlife directly after the Birds section (I had it in Site Info, but wasn't happy with it). I preferred the bird list under the Birds section. The style for reviews is a bit fiddly to set-up, but I think...
