Thanks for the kind words Johny. At the moment the book is only available via amazon as I have run out of personal copies.

It has been a great year in Suffolk and an exceptional first half of the year in the Lowestoft area. I have already recorded 181 species this year in the Lowestoft bird clubs recording area and am hoping for a good autumn with the record of 218 well and truly on. Highlights have included...

For Hopton railtrack park in the large layby by longfulans lane. Then walk along the grassy eastern side first to the end by a house. Then walk through to the other side and walk back, this is when you see the birds though the walking is harder mainly along the edge of a newly ploughed field...

There hasnt been a station building and platforms since i moved in in 1998, maybe they built housing over it. There was talk of opening up the whole disused railtrack with a new path from Lowestoft to Gorleston which would have been nice but no developments i have heard of recently.

There is no Corton station. The track becomes inaccessible and private both north and south (when it hits the houses) It becomes accessible again to the north opposite Radar lodge at " Hopton railtrack". To the south it becomes accessible again at "Gunton railtrack" south of pleasurewood hills...

Thanks just seen it on RBA Gallery. Shows the collar though distant, probably acceptable as Pallid Harrier.

The birder listing it as Montys at Thorpeness saw photos taken by Ian Clarke which appear to show Pallid and is now claiming it as Pallid (per Trektellen viz mig site) I havent seen the photos maybe he will pass them on to BINS. Quite likely the Blakeney bird I guess.

It appears the juv Harrier seen south over Minsmere/Thorpeness yesterday was in fact a Pallid based on photos viewed today. I havent seen them yet but people seem convinced it shows a Pallid Harrier. 2nd for Suffolk. (or 3rd for Suffolk if you consider the unsubmitted photo taked on the Blyth a...

A few migrants drifted in to the Lowestoft area this afternoon including 5 Pied Flys, 2 Redstarts, Spotted Fly and 12 Whinchats. I was out all day and saw nothing early on then migrants from midday onwards with new arrivals in the late afternoon. It is well noted that Blakeney Point gets birds...

Ad Great Knot seen well on Breydon south flats this afternoon. For Suffolk listers its worth seeing, your best bet may be tommorow at a similar time around 5pm. Its a long walk though but well worth it.

The watchpoint is the part where the ground is raised by the gate on the north east side opposite Oulton Marsh. Also known locally as Wiltons watchpoint on account of Rob Wiltons activities there last year on his patchwork challenge. I saw a Black Kite from there earler this month looking out...

Firecrests seem to be wintering in the Gunton Warren area Paul. Basically park in links Road car park north Lowestoft and walk north a bit to view the bank scrub north of the last holm oak clump. If you fail to see them here check the north end of Corton Woods nearby. (Park in Dip Farm golf...

Today was a crazy kind of day. The wind had switched to the west after a good period of easterlies, I wasnt expecting much at all...but it turned into the best day of the year... As I wasnt expecting anything I didnt even check Corton and headed straight to Ness Point to test out the camera on...

    Suffolk Birding

Strong North easterly winds after gale northerlies produced a decent seawatch as predicted. In easterly based conditions I now know the best vantage point seems to be from Gunton cliff from the car where its still, dry and has a high view. A hoped for Leach`s Petrel gave good scope views halfway...

Just a heads up the chart for Friday looks perfect for Suffolk seawatching and the chart for Saturday looks optimal for a fall of migrants. Hope it sticks as planned as its been pretty poor here since late August tbh.

Still looks decent for a Thursday afternoon arrival in NE Suffolk as birds skirt around a Danish low and potentaiily arrive at us from after midday. Then due east to south east for a good few days which should produce a Firecrest arrival here at least and the potential of a Siberian mega that...

    Suffolk Birding

Some good looking weather conditions incoming. Looking at the charts id say Thursday has a good chance of arrivals with the north easterlies coming from German Bight overnight. So if anyone isnt working id suggest thrashing the north of the county on Thursday. Conditions tho are promising from...

Pretty quiet lately. Again nothing of note on patch birding boundary this morning, or the last few days ive looked (yes I have been out-cheeky buggers). Went to check the scrape at Carlton. 1 Whimbrel, 4 Redshank and a brief group of c.7-10 Ringed Plover. Went to marsh lane end only to be turfed...

Out on patch after work. Decided to stop on road overlooking MoD field as I was driving past. In one scan at least 60 Wheatears were present feeding close to the road! An obvious large arrival of the species. During my subsequent patch walk I saw many more leading to an eventual total of 105...

We had 30 000 Redwings passing out to sea at Corton this evening. I started a new thread in the migration section on it.

Up early and out to Corton church. It soon became evident that a phenominal passage of Redwing was underway as stream upon stream of them were moving south over the sallows and off south over the church with many stopping to rest in fields also. The passage continued for at least an hour and I...

Yes they have deliberately dug out a scrape there at Carlton Marshes. There are also plans to dig further scrapes on the nearby Castle marshes. Matt Gooch and the SWT are doing a great job there at the moment, lets hope the birds will oblige.

New year, new Lowestoft area yearlist begins, this time with some extra competition. This afternoon I stood at the mound at Waveney Forest (with the 2 main competitors) as we attempted to snare both Rough-legged Buzzard and Great White Egret for the Lizard list. Success was had due to us...
