A38 near Chichester Caravans at 6.05am. On the way to the flashes, for the beast, there was a Barn Owl hunting the hedgerow east side of A38. Was this the same bird later seen at the Flashes.

Moors Pool Arrived in the east hide about 6.45am and was delighted to have Kingfisher in the first few minutes. However, never dreamed that by 7.30 would have found Spotted Crake on the pool island. Pleased that it showed on and off until at least 10.30. Sorry if any of my images are...

Moors Pool Although it was good to be out again, after being snowed in most of the week, the comfort levels across the reserve were very marked. Spent the first few hours freezing in the east hide then moved on to the balmy conditions of the west hide; it felt a good 10 deg. warmer. Plenty of...

I can only agree that when a bird is fleeing in panic, either from aggression or predation, then no amount of warning markers are going to be successful. Does this not raise the question of whether it was sensible to erect barbed wire stock fencing so close to the edge of the pools?

Despite there being no spring migrants the weather more than compensated. However, my visit to the Flashes was marred by the sight of a Mute Swan hung up on the stock fence by its leg ring. What made it more distressing was to see the resident male swan, from the 3rd flash, attacking the...

Whooper Swans at the Moors Pool Heavily cropped record shot of one of the Whoopers. For the 15 mins. they were present they were always in the NE corner. Also 1 Dunlin around Amy's Marsh joined later in the morning by 2 Shelduck.

Moors Pool Three Little Egrets, two Green Sands and at least twenty Snipe. Duck numbers still low with no Pochard as yet. The new layout of pool island looks great with both Green Sand and Kingfisher using "Spurm point". :-O;)

Flashes Spent a few hours at the flashes this morning. Water levels are receding and without any significant rain forecast for the next week where will we be by next weekend. A couple of shots of today's Greenshank but distant due to the restricted feeding areas.

Morning at the Flashes Juv. Redstart in hedge across transmitter field. Redshank and LRP young still OK. The saucer area held plenty of waders including a single Dunlin, however, a male Sparrowhawk was sitting on the walkway fence also viewing the saucer.

5 Black Tailed Godwits dropped in around 9.00am this morning to join 1 already there. Avo's continually harried the 5 newcomers but were relatively tolerant of 1 bird already present. 2 Egyptian Geese on sailing pool are acting more and more like farmyard geese. 2 Marbled White butterflies, 1...

To most people it is a no-brainer that you do not thrash around to find nests. However, what chance is there when last nights episode of Springwatch showed 3 or 4 people, plus a camera crew, doing exactly the same looking for Reed Warbler nests to film.

Very quiet at the Moors except for dog Otter catching a fish of at least 12 inches and dragging it into the NW reed bed. The 2 Redshank, at the Flashes, spent a good half hour prospecting for nest sites in front of the hide but were being chased off by the Lapwing. Nesting Redshank - too much...
