Been digging out apples from under the snow and trying to defrost them as well as providing a plentiful supply of raisins but no Fieldfares yet just an increase in Blackbirds and Song Thrushes. We have had 3 Blackcaps since Christmas.
Had a good afternoon walk at Winnall Moors this afternoon...
All gone a bit quiet round these parts so I thought I would spice things up with a few mouth wateringly exciting observations. ;)

No... :C
It was a visiting relatives day for me so no chance of getting anywhere. There's always next year ;)
Or I could just go to St Kilda, slightly less economical though! ;)
Jammy b****r ;)
Saw that the weather this morning looked good for petrels put went to see the Sandpiper instead. It will probably overwinter now and I will feel even more stupid.
Sean, the expert opinion has been has been slightly divided but Simon Ingram posted on hoslist today that after seeing it again he thinks it might be a Spotted. When he first saw it he thought it was a Common so it is obviously a confusing bird. Nigel Jones who was there at the same time says...
Been a quiet autumn overall I would say, one day Long-billed Dowitcher and Olive-backed Pipit being the rarest we have had.
But good at the moment with the Phalarope, divers, Shore Lark, Spotted Sandpiper and Leach's Petrel all being seen recently.
A great morning for Goshawks in the Forest this morning. Had 10 sightings, although I can't say for sure that there were any more than 2 birds. Also a single Hobby and lots of Buzzards, but no Honeys. And Cuckoo (male + female heard), Woodlark and Crossbill.
Lee Evans reports seeing Honeys...
Lots of stuff moving all over the country today.
We have Icterine Warbler at Sandy Point
Temminck's on Ibsley
Black Terns at Ibsley, Weston Shore, Titchfield
Curlew Sand and Wood Sand at Pennington
I'm going away this weekend without birding so will probably miss the best weekend of the...
Does anyone know if all the Redstarts in the NF at the moment are a mixture of migrants and breeders because it seems there are more in April than later in the rest of the spring.
A good morning at Highland Water, Firecrest, Redstart, Cuckoo, my 1st Tree Pipit of the season, Grey Wagtail, Marsh Tit, Siskin, Tawny Owl, Bullfinches lots of Treecreepers. Also 3 Canada Geese flying over was unusual
Saw lots of Redstarts at Denny Wood + Cuckoos, Crossbills, Woodlark and Curlews. Thought I heard a Lesser Spot drumming briefly as well but wasn't sure.
Was well please to find and see very well a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker on Baddesley Common this morning. Felt more like and Ivory-billed!
Also my first Swallow of the year near Oliver's Battery.
They seem very much at home in the forest and are actually surprisingly common in the rest of Hampshire. I think because of the habitat they encounter and that they nest in tree-holes they can go unnoticed.
It seems as though Eyeworth as been without Goosanders this winter which is a shame...
At Bransbury on Friday 2 Barn Owls, at least 5 Short-eared Owls, ringtail Hen Harrier (my first for this site) and Woodcock.
On Sunday LEO at Farlington showing nicely. Shame about the idiots walking around under its bush, who ironically couldn't see it while those on the seawall could. Why??? :C
Sorry for not posting much recently, I have done very little birding and normally at Blashford where I just see the same as everyone else. Today I went to Stockbridge Common and the best birds were Barn Owl, Blackcap, Gadwall, Little Egret, Stonechat, Tawny Owl and 3 Water Rail which were...
there are short-eared owls at bransbury this winter, but they seem to have joined the list of hoslist unmentionables ;)
for barn owls try bransbury as above, titchfield canal path, moorcourt/lee area (paul's patch)
