Try and get down to Croft Pascoe pool, Goonhilly on the Lizard peninsula at dusk for Nightjars Sideshow Bob. It's within striking distance from Marazion and they can be heard churring from the road and sometimes seen if lucky.

There was a hybrid male Wigeon at College Res on sporadic dates in the winters of 2007+2008. Could be the same bird returning Dan.

The Penryn rugby pitch by ASDA's, Simon, had a Laughing Gull briefly several years ago and it regularly gets Curlew and the odd Med Gull. These open green spots are all worth checking if passing by regularly.

Nice to hear the reports from College and Argal, DtM and Jacana. As my local patch for three years whilst at Tremough it was a great place I usually enjoyed all to myself. College Reservoir in particular is one of those places which rewards regular watching to find the rarities but has enough...

Very diplomatically put Dantheman. I was cyber-set-upon last time I attempted a similar suggestion!

Cheers Simon and Ash. The Long-tailed Duck was a lifer to boot! The Loe Pool is one of those places that would really reward more observer coverage. Had some cracking birds and birding there in the last few years but it is a big place. I recommend Castle Beach on Falmouth seafront Simon for...

Apparently is proving tricky to see and flighty but well worth the treck Ash!

It's shaping up pretty good for the moment Jonathan. Little Shearwater, Wilson's Petrel, poss Yelkouan Shearwater, large shears galore and bundles of the regular seabirds off Pendeen today alone. A check of the wind forecast shows that tomorrow looks good for north coast spots including...

It's not too bad! For an example, on a good day, after 1000 manxies have flown past and etched their idiosyncratic nature upon your mind, then a bird twice the size and all dark (bar a silvery patch on the underwing) hurtles past, it is a Sooty Shear. Obviously there are the trickier incidences...

I think there is one other historical record (a deceased bird) Simon, from the first half of the 20th Century only. A hard one to call from a seawatch on the mainland i'd imagine though looking like a leach's - stormy cross. Additionally the taxonomy of this species is a bit in doubt. It may...

Not seen much myself Ash bar a Hobby through Penryn recently, but a mate of mine had Osprey and Black Kite over near Argal the other day, both seen within an hour! I couldn't quite believe it so pegged it down to the Reservoirs but after a couple of hours I'd decided that there was no sign and...

A sign of better things. But it was seen yesterday evening Ash. 1 Spotted Flycatcher at Church Cove Lizard today. Cuckoos everywhere on the Lizard and plenty of interesting warblers around Windmill Farm and Hayle Kimbro pool. Thanks. Henry.

Would love to see this one but they have a track record of more often than not being one dayers. 1 Swallow in off the sea at Pendennis, Falmouth today and went north. 1 Great Crested Grebe on Swanpool. Thanks. Henerz.

Who saw it on the 7th Feb in the afternoon at Zennor though Camelbirder? That would be the only way to confirm the prescence of two birds as the plumage shown on pics is inseperable from my visual analysis.

On the 7th a Snowy Owl was photographed on the sea wall at Gyllyngvase just south of Falmouth at 4pm. It wasn't present for long being pushed off by gulls. I don't have permission to post the photo from the photographer but since the news got out I can elaborate on the sighting. It appears to be...

Hey chaps, I didn't intend to add fire to the the slanging matches. If it's what it takes for this thread to resume original function as a great resource for hearing about bird news and a place to get more birding info then I withdraw my comments Andy and Dave. Ilya, if you source out a decent...

Does anyone have any details on the exact location of the Snowy Owl at Amalveor Downs? I dipped a week ago just after it was refound but rambled across the area and couldn't find it. Cheers. Henerz.

That quote is taken out of context and i've already explained my reasons for not wanting this arguement to continue (please refer back to post #749) Back on track though, College Reservoir this morning held 1 Goosander (f), 1 Great Crested Grebe, 6 Goldeneyes (1m, 5f a patch record for me), 2...

If everyone was as argumentative as you and Dave Parker this thread would have deteriorated a long time ago. Guess it had to happen some time. This is birdforum after all... H. P.s. The wintering Blackcap male was in my garden (Penryn) again today. Flycatching from telegraph wires then singing...

Hey chaps. We all make mistakes Dave and Paul, it is a part of the learning process after all. Can we get back on thread here though please. I think a lot of people don't want to be part of your domestic which has taken over this thread and will be putting some people off posting to some extent...

Nice pic Chris. I've not witnessed this species nesting in reeds before. Passed the reserve last weekend and was pleased to see it had been hacked back. It was starting to get really poor for viewing, let's hope this can bring in an Aquatic Warb, come the autumn! Cheers. Henerz.
